FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about RAKU nanocoating, marble protection, food safety, installation time, and commercial applications across North America.

What surfaces does RAKU protect?

RAKU is engineered for natural stone including marble (all varieties), onyx, quartzite, travertine, limestone, and terrazzo. It is applicable on horizontal and vertical surfaces in both interior and exterior settings.

How is RAKU different from a traditional stone sealer?

Traditional sealers — both surface-coat and penetrating types — fill or slow liquid penetration but offer little to no protection against acid etching, which is the primary cause of marble damage. RAKU bonds at the molecular level to create a true zero-porosity barrier that stops both staining AND etching permanently.

Is RAKU food-safe?

Yes. RAKU meets food-contact safety standards and is food-contact safe for kitchen countertops, restaurant bar tops, and food preparation areas. It is used in Michelin-starred restaurants and professional kitchens across North America.

Does RAKU change how my marble looks?

No. RAKU is molecularly bonded to the stone and is invisible to the naked eye and to the touch. Your marble keeps its exact original finish — whether honed, polished, leathered, or brushed. There is no change in gloss, texture, colour, or appearance.

How long does the application take?

Most residential applications are completed in a single day — typically 4 to 8 hours depending on the surface area. Commercial applications for larger venues are scheduled over a single overnight or closure window to eliminate operational disruption.

Does RAKU require reapplication?

No. RAKU forms a permanent molecular bond with the stone. It does not wear off, wash away, or degrade over time the way surface sealers do. The coating is permanent and backed by a 10-year warranty.

What is the 10-year warranty?

Every Marble Armour application is covered by a 10-year warranty on the RAKU protection. If the coating fails to protect against etching or staining under normal use conditions within the warranty period, Marble Armour will reapply the protection at no cost.

Can RAKU be applied to already-damaged marble?

Yes. In most cases, marble that has been etched or stained can be restored (polished or honed to remove surface damage) and then protected with RAKU. We can assess the condition of your stone and recommend whether restoration prior to application is advisable.

What is the heat resistance of RAKU?

RAKU provides heat resistance up to 1,900°F — well above the temperature of any residential or commercial heat source including induction cooktops, buffet heat lamps, and outdoor grills. There is no risk of heat discolouration or degradation under normal use.
